What is BER?
As part of the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive, every property being sold or let in Ireland will require a Building Energy Rating (BER) Certificate issued by a qualified assessor registered with Sustainable Energy Ireland. BER assesses the energy performance of your home from A to G.
A Building Energy Rating is a way of measuring how much it will cost to heat and light your home. The more energy it takes to keep your home at a comfortable heat and brightness the worse your rating will be.
For Private Individuals:
Any existing dwelling being offered for sale or let after January 1st 2009 requires a BER certificate.
Any newly constructed dwelling for which an initial planning application was made after January 1st 2007 requires a BER certificate before it can be occupied.
